Kingdom Hearts Pokémon Teams

Pretty self-explanatory, but this is my giant KH/Pokémon crossover page! I have many, many thoughts about this. I've thought about it so much. I did some fun coding things for this page, so please read the below notes.

Click the arrow labelled "Details" on the right side of a Pokémon name to see extra information about my choices! (When any of the extra comments are open, the arrow will center itself over that comment. There seems to be no easy way to change this, so I'm letting you know.)

The "Considered/Non-Final Pokémon" dropdown at the end is for Pokémon I haven't decided on, which will typically be bigger for teams that aren't finished yet. I want to include my notes for ones I'm not certain on, sometimes it helps me decide! Unfortunately for me, I'm very picky about the way I make character teams.

Some Pokémon names are a different color/seafoam. When this is in the main team spot, this is to denote that they're Pokémon not in the character's active team (like Riku's Absol), but are still important. When this is in the Considered/Non-Final spot, it means that these are relevant Pokémon I considered for that character's team, but decided against.

There will be spoilers up to the most recent game in the series, which at the time of writing is Kingdom Hearts: Dark Road.

Navigation:

Marluxia / Lauriam

Fomantis/Lurantis
Details

They share a color scheme, Lurantis even looks like Graceful Dahlia. This is his ace, his main Pokémon.

Ivysaur/Venusaur
Details

Marluxia's team needs to be filled out with Grass-types, and so of course I looked at starters. And I really like the mental image of him with a Venusaur? I think it's sweet. I drew Lauriam with an Ivysaur once.

Plusle
Details

Part of a matching pair with Strelitzia's Minun.

Roselia/Roserade
Details

He has flower petals all over the place— when he attacks, when he takes off his hood, etc. He's gotta have a Roserade.

Phantump/Trevenant
Details

A Ghost/Grass type obtained either during or after KHUx… representing Strelitzia. Phantumps are dead children, and the spirit of Strelitzia is seemingly worked into his boss fight in Chain of Memories. It's dark, but it works. Additionally, with his boss fight mechanics & his lesser Nobodies being called Reapers, I think his element is supposed to be life and death. So Trevenant also plays into that.

Lauriam's team consists primarily of Grass-types, because of course it does. His element is Flower, I gave him flowers. What more do you need than flowers and Pokémon that represent your love for your sister you don't remember?

I'm keeping a space open for him just in case. It'd be fun to give him a sharp Pokémon, for his scythe, but I do think Lurantis already covers that. Maybe another Grass-type'll come along.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Scyther
Details

The main thing I feel like Marluxia's team is missing is a Pokémon representing his scythe more specifically than Lurantis does. But are any of the options really better than Lurantis?

Kabutops
Details

Same as Scyther, with the additional bonus of… being from the past!

Floette/Florges
Details

More flowers, as he would want.

Larxene / Elrena

Eevee/Jolteon
Details

I try to use Eeveelutions sparingly, but Jolteon just fits her whole aesthetic for me. Also, Elrena as she appears in KHUx gives me the impression she would have an Eevee.

Mawile
Details

"It uses its docile-looking face to lull foes into complacency, then bites with its huge, relentless jaws." A good Pokémon for the Savage Nymph.

Electrike/Manectric
Details

It took me a while to commit to this one, and the reasoning really boils down to… this is what she would be in a Pokémon AU. Another fast, canine Electric-type.

Hisui Sneasel/Sneasler
Details

I was really stuck between whether to go with Weavile or Sneasler for Larxene. Either of them could fit. I asked people on Twitter what they thought for this choice, and this meme (warning: swearing) came up, which makes sense because it's also what I think of when I think of Sneasler. Sneasler work alone, as opposed to Weavile working in groups, but yeah, I think Larxene could be described with that rant, and that's what really matters here.

Larxene's team is fast, Electric-type, and vicious. There's not much more to my ideas for her than that. I do like imagining her team in the KHUx era, though, with much softer and cuter Electric-types that aren't what she's known for today…

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Ninjask
Details

When I watched my friend fight Larxene one day, I realized: she's so fast. What if I gave her the fastest non-Legendary Pokémon. Also, her Nobodies are called Ninjas!

Xurkitree
Details

… and speaking of Larxene being fast, what if there was a fast, Electric-type Legendary to give her? Due to Xurkitree being a weird alien of a Legendary, I don't know if I want to go ahead with this, but I certainly considered it.

Greninja
Details

Her Nobodies are called Ninjas. I don't think this is what I want to go with, but her with a Greninja could be neat.

Blitzle/Zebstrika
Details

More Electric-types to pad out her team.

Raichu
Details

I already gave her an Eeveelution, but… what if Elrena had a Pikachu. That'd be cute. Kinda fits with how she's supposed to be cute but vicious, too.

Scyther
Details

Sharp. Maybe even traded from Marluxia…

Aqua

Gallade
Details

I think it'd be cool if she gets the "masculine" option from a "feminine" evolution line. Also, she parallels Riku's Gardevoir!

Kubfu/Urshifu (Rapid)
Details

Given to her by Eraqus. Mexgar on Twitter recommended Aqua and Terra get matching Urshifu, and that's not something I would've thought of on my own. Thanks! It's perfect, since they're split into a Water-type form and a Dark-type form. Aqua's is, of course, Rapid Strike, the Water form.

Quaxwell/Quaquaval
Details

Aqua's fighting style is beautiful and dance-like, and that's exactly how Quaquaval attacks. I haven't been able to shake this association since I first evolved Quaxolas into one…

I have a hard time finding the right balance of Pokémon for Aqua. A lot of peoples' instinct with Aqua is to give her flowy, feminine Pokémon, and I just don't think that's the right path for her. But alas, being picky means it takes longer to fill out a team…

Of course she gets plenty of Water-types, but I think putting some Fighting-types in there is a fun mix. (Also, they're, you know… strong against Dark-types.) I also want to figure out a trio of Pokémon that the Wayfinder Trio can share, but I haven't figured out if I want to do the Musketeer trio, starters, or what.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Samurott
Details

Another sword-based Water-type, and an unintentional overlap with Roxas.

Seadra/Kingdra
Details

A strong Water-type I wanted to give her, but I don't feel like I have a strong enough reason to give one to her. But they are cool…

Lapras
Details

A strong Water/Ice-type associated with music. They're strong, they're well-loved… this would be a good choice.

Cobalion
Details

Do I want to give the Wayfinder trio the Musketeers? Not really…? But I don't have any better ideas, so here they stay.

Terra

Larvitar/Pupitar/ Tyranitar
Details

The main Terra Pokémon, as mirrored by Xemnas and Ansem. And it's really just because it's a big Rock/Dark-type, which is the best I can really do for Terra. He even gives baby Riku a Larvitar to continue this…

Kubfu/Urshifu (Single)
Details

Given to him by Eraqus. Again, Mexgar on Twitter recommended this one, thanks! He has the Dark-type Single Strike form to contrast Aqua's Water-type.

Hisui Arcanine
Details

A loyal, cool Rock-type. This is the kind of Pokémon I want Terra to have, but so many of them just aren't right… I like Hisuian Arcanine for him, though. It's sweet.

I actually have a lot of trouble with Terra's team. Obviously he's gotta have some Dark-types, and then some earthy Pokémon (Rock/Ground/Steel and perhaps Grass), but the overlaps here… are hard. I'm never quite satisfied with most of my choices, and I don't know what to do about that.

Like the rest of the Wayfinder Trio, I want Pokémon that they match with each other, but I haven't figured out what those Pokémon are yet.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Lairon/Aggron
Details

A strong Steel/Rock-type, but I'm not sure the vibe is quite right? They're big guys, they're strong, but maybe a little much for Terra.

Turtwig/Grotle/ Torterra
Details

I understand they have "terra" in the name, but I don't want to make a choice based just on that.

Rhyhorn/Rhydon/ Rhyperior
Details

Another big Rock-type.

Sandile/Krokorok/ Krookodile
Details

A Ground/Dark-type. But I don't feel like they're quite right…

Terrakion
Details

Do I want to give the Wayfinders the Musketeer Trio? I don't know yet.

Ventus

Hoppip/Skiploom
Details

Lauriam gave Ven the Hoppip during the KHUx era, and it stayed with him into the present, only evolving pre-BBS.

Reshiram
Details

Given entirely to represent Vanitas as a Kyurem— a creature that was once whole, but no longer is. And Ventus, despite that, is still whole.

Komala
Details

Ventus sleeps a lot. He napped for 10 years once

Mimikyu
Details

A Pokémon he had during KHUx, but became Vanitas's when he started existing. Ventus's introduction in KHUx shows him having so many doubts about being a Union Leader, which, well… he's not supposed to be there. His fears are justified. Poor kid.

Ven is so weird. I'm combining his teams from the past and present here, but I feel like he, above any of the other characters who are in both KHUx and the present day of Kingdom Hearts, has such a weird situation. It happens, when you get your darkness/a Darkness ripped out by Xehanort and lose all your memories.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Pichu/Pikachu
Details

Soft and yellow! Also it's what I assigned him when I did a casual KH/Pokémon Mystery Dungeon AU. He's a so-called "chosen one", it feels right for him to have the mascot of Pokémon.

Turtwig/Grotle
Details

From Terra, a stand-in for the wooden Keyblade.

Sentret/Furret
Details

Ven's just a little guy. These are more little guys.

Mareep/Flaaffy/ Ampharos
Details

A "light" element Pokémon that I think fits him.

Rockruff/ Lycanroc (Day)
Details

To possibly match with Sora (and maybe Roxas).

Togepi/Togetic/ Togekiss
Details

Ventus is a very sweet boy, he's a weird kind of pure light. A happiness Pokémon could match that. (Side note, yeah, he sure has overlap with Kairi, huh? LOVE those parallels)

Skitty/Delcatty
Details

I haven't decided on a Chirithy stand-in for Ven yet… this is my main idea.

Virizion
Details

The Wayfinder Trio fits pretty well to the Musketeer Trio… I think Ven may be the weakest link in that. I dunno if I'm going with this.

Vanitas

Kyurem
Details

A dragon created from when Zekrom and Reshiram separated into two beings. Kyurem is what's left, and it can combine with either of the two for more powerful, alternate forms. I'm fully aware this is mean to do to Vanitas, but I stand by it, it's too good.

Mimikyu
Details

Taken from Ventus, this was a Mimikyu he had in the KHUx era. And now, Vanitas is the one who embodies it…

Mareanie/Toxapex
Details

Not a jellyfish, but similar in shape to a lot of the Unversed. Plus, as Mareanie's name suggests, it's a meanie. This was the idea of someone I followed on Twitter a few years ago, but the idea stuck! It's a solid choice.

Ah, Vanitas. Is he aware he's a being who's grown a consciousness outside of a hivemind of darkness? I don't know. I love that for him, though.

He has a lot going on. Once I wondered if he has the most complicated/messed-up existence in Kingdom Hearts. (I think the conclusion I ended on is that he's tied with Xemnas.) He has his connection to his 'brother', Ventus, and he has his connection to his 'teacher'… honestly, most of my Vanitas thoughts nowadays revolve around the whole Darkness thing. I'm so excited to see where the series goes with that.

One fun thing I'm doing for Vanitas is giving him Pokémon based on the Unversed. They're little weirdos, but I think he secretly has some favorite animals— there's quite a few rabbits and jellyfish in there.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Pawniard/ Bisharp
Details

Possibly from Xehanort? They're sinister, cruel Pokémon, plus it would, y'know, match with Xehanort's Bisharp.

Frillish/Jellicent
Details

A jellyfish for Vanitas!

Galar Corsola/ Cursola
Details

Not quite a jellyfish, but they do kinda look like Unversed themselves.

Malamar
Details

Another Pokémon that feels fitting for the Unversed.

Sableye
Details

Another little weirdo! I bet Vanitas would like that it had no weaknesses before Gen 6. I also bet Vanitas would hack his Sableye to have Wonder Guard…

Hattrem/ Hatterene
Details

They hit you if you have strong enough emotions… so, yeah, really solid choice, actually.

Shiinotic
Details

Another Unversed-like weirdo.

Gastly/Haunter/ Gengar
Details

He's a shadow! OooOoOoOoooOOoooOooooOOoo

Drifloon/Drifblim
Details

Another Unversed-alike.

Spiritomb
Details

See Sableye above, except now with the baggage of being 108 souls merged together. This is more of a Darkness thing than Vanitas specifically…

Darkrai
Details

Again, Darkness.

Marshadow
Details

Shadows again, but this time a Mythical.

Ceruledge
Details

A Fire/Ghost-type that matches his aesthetic? Interesting.

Poipole/ Naganadel
Details

I think it'd be fun if he had an Ultra Beast.

Xehanort (Young and Old)

Aegislash
Details

The Pokémon stand-in for No Name.

Yamask/Cofagrigus
Details

I gave him a Cofagrigus before the end of KHUx came out. Um… yeah, I think young Xehanort having a Pokémon that mimics the face of his caretaker, someone whose memories he's seen in dreams, is… a lot, and really good. I didn't expect to be able to stand behind this one so hard.

Pawniard/Bisharp
Details

A chess-related Dark-type. The colors also match, somehow?

On my original spreadsheet, I have separate columns for young Xehanort (KHDR to DDD age, aka about 15-19) and older Xehanort (BBS to KH3, somewhere in his 70s-80s). They're the same person with ultimately the same team, so I'm merging them here, but it feels weird to.

He's a main antagonist. I want his team to be good, so I'm pickier than usual with him. He gets Dark- and Ghost-types, of course, relating to his quest for a balance between light and darkness. Beyond that… I haven't figured that out. I think there's a lot of cool stuff you could do with Xehanort's team that I haven't done yet. I'm leaving my options open.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Hatenna/Hattrem/ Hatterene
Details

Very emotional Pokémon. I think Xehanort could have one of his own, referencing his empathy powers… but also, I think the more interesting route is that this used to be Baldr's.

Darkrai
Details

Darkness legendary.

Chandelure
Details

A very ominous Ghost-type that can steal souls. One of the strong Ghost-types I considered.

Spiritomb
Details

A Pokémon made from many condemned souls. I don't think this fits as well for Xehanort as it does for, like, the Master of Masters. Maybe.

Malamar
Details

Another freaky Dark-type that could round out a team. Xehanort isn't really… "upside-down"… I'm not sure about this one.

Necrozma
Details

A Legendary of color, light, and darkness. A more interesting Legendary pick than Darkrai.

Metagross
Details

I don't remember if I had logic for this, other than it being a strong Psychic-type that fits on a final boss kind of team.

Eraqus

Mienfoo/Mienshao
Details

A fun Fighting-type. Um… I don't think there was deep reasoning to this one.

Swoobat
Details

An evolved form of the Woobat that used to belong to Vor, 80 or so years ago.

Lillipup/Herdier/ Stoutland
Details

One of the Pokémon he's had since his school days. The logic is, um… it grows a mustache. Like he does. It has the right vibes of going from a fun kid to a serious adult.

I don't really like Eraqus, and I don't know many people who do. This does change in the context of Dark Road, though— I still can't believe he was a class clown. But alas… he really didn't learn anything that would help him from Baldr, huh.

Due to me not liking him much, I haven't spent much time thinking about his team. Like, I filled out 3-Pokémon teams for the rest of the KHDR kids, but I haven't done that for him yet. I just don't… associate him with anything. I guess Fighting-types? And maybe other Pokémon that are strong against Dark-types.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Makuhita/Hariyama
Details

A possible Fighting-type.

Rowlet/Dartrix/ Hisui Decidueye
Details

A possible Fighting-type. I think I had logic for this, but it might've been another case of "fun as a kid, serious as an adult".

Crabrawler/ Crabominable
Details

Possible trade from Xehanort?

Jangmo-o/Hakamo-o/Kommo-o
Details

Another Fighting-type line.

Aron/Lairon/Aggron
Details

I default to Aggron for a lot of, like… bigger enemies? Especially armored guys in Fire Emblem. I guess Eraqus fits the vibe.

Shieldon/Bastiodon
Details

A shield, I guess representing how he wants to protect his students, even when that's worse for them.

Pidgey/Pidgeotto/ Pidgeot
Details

A classic Pokémon. I know I've given him a bunch of Unova Pokémon thus far, but Eraqus also seems like a Kanto kind of guy.

Squirtle/Wartortle/ Blastoise
Details

Perhaps related to Brain's Wartortle…

Abra/Kadabra/ Alakazam
Details

Another guy with a mustache. Was… that my entire logic? It might've been.

Ephemer

Carbink
Details

Mostly vibes-based, but… I believe in this one. A cute little Fairy-type. This is also what I used for Sora's Starlight Keyblade.

Whimsicott
Details

Given to him by Ava when he was told he was gonna be a Union Leader. Representative of the Dandelions.

Togetic
Details

Ephemer believes in his friends so much, and Togetic is a Pokémon that brings happiness to those that are pure of heart… I felt like they would be a good match. I drew it once!

Sentret/Furret
Details

Given to him by the Player! Ephemer is, regardless of everything, just a guy. And I wanted to give him some Pokémon that are just little guys, something from the early routes of a game. And Furret are cute!

Eevee/Espeon
Details

Traded to him by Brain (for Wartortle). I don't think it evolves until after the events of KHUx/until he's rebuilding Scala, but it felt weird to not know what his Eevee would evolve into for him specifically. (Usually I use Eevee without a known evolution as a representation of a character's potential.) Espeon's a friendship evolution, and felt like the best fit.

Admittedly, Ephemer is not a character I've thought about much. He's interesting for being a major character in KHx (as well as KHUx), and being more willing to ask questions than the Foretellers ever were. He's curious, he led the Dandelions well through the events of KHUx. And he becomes the founder of Scala ad Caelum, I guess??

I'm pretty happy with what I have for him so far, since he's at 5/6, but one thing I want to cover is a Water-type for… the end of KHUx. I think it'd be, um, a lot, if he had a Pokémon to save him from the wreckage of Daybreak Town.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Tirtouga/Carracosta
Details

Water-type, also a fossil. Since, y'know, KHUx takes place in the past.

Buizel/Floatzel
Details

Another Water-type possibility, except this time it's a cute lil guy who's available very early in the game, which is something I feel like Ephemer's team needs more of.

Horsea/Seadra/ Kingdra
Details

Another Water-type, this time… I think it would be interesting if Ephemer had a Pokémon that evolved into a king.

Riolu/Lucario
Details

A "hero" kind of Pokémon.

Bronzor/Bronzong
Details

Ephemer was curious, and wanted to look into various things in Daybreak Town… so an ancient relic Pokémon would be fun for that. I also considered Meltan.

Skuld

Staryu/Starmie
Details

Star theme.

Poochyena/ Mightyena
Details

It's what I assigned to her in the PMD AU I drew, so I just… went for it. I think it fits, I think a Route 1 Pokémon with a Dark(-type)er twist is fun.

I don't have much to say about Skuld. Sorry, Skuld, I like your lines about defying destiny! I'm still bought in to the theory that she ended up as Subject X. And like, even if she isn't, where did she go? Too many questions. How am I supposed to build a team with that…?

So, I mostly go off of aesthetic and vibes. And honestly? Her vibes are fun! I've generally been going for, like, a "friendly rival" kind of team. I think she should be cool, but friendly. Like she is in canon.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Fletchinder/ Talonflame
Details

A cool version of a regional bird!

Golbat/Crobat
Details

Friendship evolution of a common but "villainous" Pokémon. Doesn't fit her as well as it would an Organization member, but the Zubat line doesn't have to be villainous. She just likes them.

Houndour/ Houndoom
Details

Fun edgy demon dog!

Venipede/ Whirlipede/ Scolipede
Details

Another aesthetic-based choice. Also because I really like the Scolipede line.

Totodile/Croconaw/ Feraligatr
Details

A fun starter choice!

Raichu
Details

Pikachu… but not really!!! I dunno, I like Raichu, I think this could be fun.

Eevee/Umbreon
Details

Matching Ephemer's Eevee… I doubt I'll go with this, but it'd be cute.

Riolu/Lucario
Details

Again, a heroic kind of Pokémon that would be fun to give to one of the KHUx kids.

Rattata/Raticate
Details

Another sort of "friendly rival" Pokémon.

Spearow/Fearow
Details

Another "friendly rival" kind of Pokémon.

Brain

Murkrow/ Honchkrow
Details

Murkrow has a hat! Brain has a hat! They match! This is also what I made him in PMD AU.

Rotom
Details

He works with a lot of technology, and I think it'd be fitting if the so-called "virus" has a little technology ghost. It's cute!

Eelektrik/ Eelektross
Details

Something about Eelektross's line being the only Pokémon with no weaknesses (being Electric-types with Levitate) feels fitting for Brain.

Wartortle
Details

Traded to him by Ephemer for an Eevee. Wartortle is my favorite of the line, and apparently represents longevity in the Pokémon universe. Brain's Keyblade has been carrying on for… well, at least a hundred years, we don't know the exact timeline yet. I think it's cool!

Brain is such a weirdo, I love him so much. He calls himself a virus! He knows a weird amount about plot details in KHUx! He was friends with Ava and there was somehow only one scene about it. But I loved it.

He does a lot of tech stuff, I gave him a lot of tech Pokémon. He's an Electric-type kind of guy to me.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Porygon2/ Porygon-Z
Details

A more obvious tech Pokémon choice! Porygon-Z even already has a virus.

Klink/Klang/ Klinklang
Details

There's a lot of gear imagery in Daybreak Town. This ties into the tech Pokémon.

Luxio/Luxray
Details

Again, Electric-type kind of guy!

Beldum/Metang/ Metagross
Details

More tech Pokémon.

Charjabug/Vikavolt
Details

More tech Pokémon.

Strelitzia

Chikorita/Bayleef
Details

Firstly, I really like the Chikorita line, I think they're adorable. Secondly, I think the vibes match really well? Very sweet Grass-types. Strelitzia seems like the type to have a starter Pokémon. She was supposed to be a Union Leader, after all.

Petilil
Details

What I made her in PMD AU! They're super cute, they're little, they're plants. I even got the bangs to match up, a little!

Pumpkaboo/ Gourgeist
Details

Cute Ghost/Grass-type. Matches with Lauriam's Trevenant, and the evolution has long, orange "hair"!

Minun
Details

Matches with her brother Lauriam's Plusle. Honestly, considering switching this to be a more fitting Pokémon, although it is cute for them to have a pair…

Galar Corsola/ Cursola
Details

Dead coral… I gave her Cursola after the scene with dream-Strelitzia in a white cloak came out.

Strelitzia's path is pretty clear to me: Grass- and Ghost-types. Grass because, well, we see her room once and there are plants absolutely everywhere. She's named after a flower. She loves flowers. That's her thing! Ghost because, well, um. You know.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Hoppip/Skiploom/ Jumpluff
Details

A dandelion! Would also give her overlap with Ventus… which is a lot.

Leafeon
Details

I don't think I'm gonna go with this, but I think she'd be adorable with a Leafeon.

Gossifleur/Eldegoss
Details

Another dandelion Pokémon! This time without Ventus overlap.

Floette
Details

A possible swap for Minun, with Lauriam getting a matching Floette. Something about the Eternal Flower Floette that never got released feels fitting for Strelitzia…

Ira

Galar Rapidash
Details

He's the unicorn guy, he HAS to have the actual unicorn Pokémon. Plus, his main element seems to be light? And this is the closest I could really get.

Magikarp/Gyarados
Details

Given to him by the Master of Masters, to represent wrath, the deadly sin Ira is named for. When I thought of the MoM-given Pokémon, I imagined it like an inside joke for MoM and MoM alone? Which is why he gave the "leader" of the group a Magikarp.

Golisopod
Details

I love Golisopod very much, and I like using them to denote that a character looks intimidating but is actually very nervous.

Arcanine
Details

I'm trying to give Ira a well-balanced team, and I wanted to give him a nice Fire-type. Sometimes it's hard to fill out a team.

The "leader" of the Foretellers! I think I have a different take on Ira than most people, stemming from watching Back Cover at least 10 times. He's a nervous, passive man who was never ready to lead the Foretellers in the Master of Masters' absence.

I specifically looked up the Foretellers' combat abilities, and the info on those is sparse. It's not like you fight them more than once in KHUx, and there's kinda only that one battle scene in Back Cover. Anyway, Ira is supposed to be light-element and well-rounded. There is no light-type in Pokémon. I'm doing my best.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Lapras
Details

A kind and tall Pokémon that matches his color scheme.

Nidoqueen
Details

Added in an attempt to make his team more rounded.

Alolan Ninetales
Details

Fits his color scheme… is that it? Oh, probably also added because Fairy-type is the closest we have to what the Light element traditionally is.

Dewgong
Details

Another member for a well-rounded team.

Meowstic (F)
Details

Colors match, and another member for a well-rounded team.

Ampharos
Details

Light-type, huh?

Aurorus
Details

Also a Pokémon I associate with "light", probably because its frills can glow. They're very pretty!

Gallade
Details

Another member for a well-rounded team.

Cinccino
Details

Well-rounded team, but also, just… a cleaning Pokémon. A friend.

Invi

Dragonair
Details

Magic snake!

Serperior
Details

Cool snake. Also, Invi's Keyblade looks like vines— a Grass-type snake is a good match for that.

Feebas/Milotic
Details

A high-special-defense serpent. Also, the Pokémon the Master of Masters gave her to represent her sin of envy.

Chandelure
Details

Rounding her team out a little more.

This isn't exactly a hot take, but Invi has the coolest design and Keyblade out of the Foretellers. And she's associated with snakes, so I gave her a bunch of serpents, obviously.

We know she has… magic? She actually has a fight scene in Back Cover, so I get to reference that! It didn't give me much, though. So I mostly want her to have a fun, strong team.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Volcarona
Details

Proooobably given to her in reference to her magic? I don't remember why I made this choice. Cool though.

Seviper
Details

Another, less fitting snake.

Vaporeon
Details

I think to match with her colors/round out the team more?

Dragalge
Details

Not exactly a serpent. Probably also to round ouf the team.

Primarina
Details

A strong special attacker. Probably wouldn't give her overlap with Milotic, though…

Meowstic (F)
Details

A strong special attacker with the right vibes for Invi. Actually… this is a fun one.

Bagon/Shelgon/ Salamence
Details

One of the other options for an envy Pokémon. This is a better choice that doesn't mesh with her team as well. (Also, I just… really wanted to give her a Milotic.)

Piplup/Prinplup/ Empoleon
Details

Another choice for an envy Pokémon, since their 'dex entries mention their vanity. Not as solid as either other choice.

Aced

Ursaring
Details

I mean, obviously. I decided on this before Ursaluna was released, and honestly I'm sticking to it, I think Ursaring fits Aced better than Ursaluna. But like. Bear.

Rampardos
Details

A Pokémon with an extremely high Attack stat, but is kind of dumb and will ram its head into things and take recoil damage.

Slowpoke/Slowbro
Details

The Pokémon the Master of Masters gave him to represent the sin of sloth. The MoM is so mean to Aced, in Japanese he gives him a nickname basically calling him dumb. So… yeah, Slowbro seemed like a good fit for all that. Poor Aced.

Melmetal
Details

Another strong Pokémon, this time from the past!

I feel like Aced simultaneously has a lot going on, and not much at all. I gave him his bear, I gave him the MoM-assigned sloth Pokémon, and then his powers include… spatial magic? Which brings me to the Luxord problem again, that most space-related Pokémon are either on the complete opposite end of the aesthetic spectrum, or are Legendary. Middle ground is Melmetal, I guess. (It's a Mythical, but it's so hard to think of it that way…)

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Pangoro
Details

Another big bear, but doesn't fit as well as Ursaring.

Mamoswine
Details

Another big guy.

Terrakion
Details

Another big guy… but another Legendary.

Electivire
Details

I think this was to give him an elemental attacker? And also since Electivire is another big guy.

Emboar
Details

Another big guy.

Kommo-o
Details

Actually… I was onto something with this, why didn't I give him a Fighting-type? Hm. I should look into that.

Kubfu/Urshifu (Single)
Details

Another bear that I, uh, keep forgetting about! People have to keep reminding me of Kubfu's existence. I'm still not sure either of these fit better than Ursaring does.

Ava

Ninetales
Details

The Fire-type Ninetales. She has a fox theme, of course she has a Ninetales.

Alolan Ninetales
Details

The Ice/Fairy-type Ninetales. If I wanted to give her only one Ninetales, I would choose this one, but I think it's fun if she has both. They both fit her!

Hisui Zoroark
Details

Given to her by Gula. This was… a whole thing. I originally had given her another Zoroark, which brought the total of Zoroarks on KH teams up to 4, and that was too many for me. Then, Legends Arceus hit in 2021, and I pondered giving her a Hisui Zoroark… and decided that yeah, that's a good choice. I'm so glad I got to differentiate the Zoroarks. This one's more messed up, and considering how much Ava goes through, I think she can have the messed up Zoroark.

Clefable
Details

Honestly? It fits her aesthetic. She needed a cute pink guy, I know she'd love a Clefable. Her team didn't feel right without at least one cute pink guy.

Purrloin/Liepard
Details

Her gift from the Master of Masters, representing the sin of greed. This was a hard one to assign, but I think Liepard fits with what she has going on the best.

Whimsicott
Details

Previously owned. She gave it to Ephemer when she told him he was gonna be a Union Leader. Because she's a Dandelion!

Ohhhh, Ava. You're so much. The image we see of her between Back Cover and KHx/KHUx is so different. I want to see more of her so bad, and I'm hopeful we will.

Obviously she has a fox theme going, so I loaded her up with foxes. She uses white magic and illusion magic… which, y'know, fits right into Zoroark. It was honestly hard to balance the amount of foxes she has, and 2 Ninetales already seems like so much. But they fit her! I'm pretty happy with how her team ended up?

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Braixen/Delphox
Details

Another magic fox that doesn't seem as good a fit as Ninetales, for some reason. But like… I feel like I could easily change my mind on this at some point.

Primarina
Details

A Fairy-type, as well as a strong magic attacker!

Togekiss
Details

Could be a fun link to Ephemer, since he has a Togetic. But her team is pretty full as-is…

Musharna
Details

The dream Pokémon. Also, it matches her colors.

Meowth/Persian
Details

One of the other greed options. Pretty solid, but I wanted to be careful with this one, since she only has so many team slots and I want them all to count.

Murkrow/ Honchkrow
Details

The other greed option. Also not a Pokémon I felt fit her. But maybe that's the point…

Gula

Ninjask
Details

The fastest non-Legendary Pokémon. Gula zips around, Ninjask zips around.

Jolteon
Details

Also very fast, but more importantly, Electric-type. Given to him by Ava.

Luxio/Luxray
Details

Gula gets the honor of a Shiny because his colors match too well not to! Also because I made him a shiny Luxio in PMD AU, and gave in after that.

Zigzagoon/Linoone
Details

A Pokémon from the Master of Masters to represent the sin of gluttony. Because they… have the ability Gluttony. I think I'm hilarious. (Also, it was really hard to find a gluttony Pokémon without just… completely killing his very fast team. Had to match the vibe.)

Gula's powers are clearer than the other Foretellers': electric, and fast. That's fairly easy to make a Pokémon team for, which is lucky for me. He does overlap with Larxene quite a bit, though, which is not something I realized before writing this page…

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Persian
Details

Persian's pretty fast! That… was the entire logic.

Beedrill
Details

Another pretty fast Pokémon that matches the colors.

Heliolisk
Details

Another fast Electric-type.

Aerodactyl
Details

A fast… fossil. Not something I'm wild about, but kind of a fun choice if I want to shake things up?

Zeraora
Details

A fast Electric-type kitty. Would've gone on his team immediately if it weren't Mythical.

Talonflame
Details

A cool, fast bird.

Zebstrika
Details

Another fast Electric-type.

Luxu

Aegislash
Details

The stand-in for No Name, given to Luxu by the Master of Masters.

Deino
Details

This was a friend's idea that I pondered for a while and couldn't get out of my head. (Ignore that I have a massive bias toward Deino.) They take a long time to evolve, they're endgame Pokémon, they're little dragons, they look like they have a little black hoodie… and they evolve into a solid "villain" Pokémon. There's just a bunch of overlapping factors that make Deino a really fun Pokémon for Luxu.

Poipole/Naganadel
Details

I decided to not give Luxu a Pokémon for his deadly sin, partially because, uh, I don't want to, but this is… kinda what his deadly sin Pokémon is? Because in Ancrene Wisse, the place where the Foretellers' animal motifs are (mostly) drawn from, lust is represented by a scorpion. And that's cool! Skorupi is also still on the board, but I like the idea of giving him a weird not-quite-scorpion alien.

Nihilego
Details

He's gotta get into the future somehow, y'know? Certainly there's no better method than body-hopping.

Oh, Luxu. I have so many thoughts on Luxu, but his Pokémon team… is hard to construct. I feel like I have to answer the question of where some of these Pokémon go over time. And I don't have to do that, but I like being thorough! It's part of why I gave his present self some Ghost-types.

I explained this in the Naganadel explanation, but the Ancrene Wisse animal associated with lust is the scorpion, and I think it'd be cool if Luxu had a scorpion motif because of that.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Skorupi/Drapion
Details

The other, more obvious scorpion option!

Duskull/Dusclops
Details

Would he have had his Dusknoir for this long? I don't know. But it's an option.

Beldum
Details

A baby technology Pokémon…? What was my thought process here?

Gligar/Gliscor
Details

Was reminded of its existence, and went "ooh that'd be cool." Another scorpion, but this time, it's Flying-type.

The Master of Masters

Gothitelle
Details

Gothitelle has visions of the future, much like how the Master of Masters can see into the future through No Name.

Drifblim
Details

Drifblim is an ominous ghost that can carry people to the afterlife. It evolves from Drifloon, a Pokémon that spirits away children. As the guy who is presumably in charge of everything that happened in Daybreak Town, I think it's a good fit.

Aegislash
Details

The stand-in for No Name. Given to Luxu.

We don't know a lot about the Master of Masters, which makes it hard to make a team for him. I have ideas! But it feels weird to put anything down for sure. Maybe he's an eldritch horror, maybe he really is some guy who figured out the secret to immortality or something.

So the best I can do, is like… weirdos. Pokémon that can see the future, perhaps a Legendary to denote his power… This team isn't getting finished until we have more information about him, and I'm okay with that.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Necrozma
Details

Mysterious beast that can absorb power from other beasts. Also, associated with both light and darkness.

Gengar
Details

Fun guy. Ghost with fun energy.

Skitty/Delcatty
Details

Chirithy! He did create them, after all.

Meowstic
Details

A secondary option for Chirithy.

Darkrai
Details

Darkness legendary.

Spiritomb
Details

Made of many souls… so perhaps not appropriate for the Master of Masters. We'll see.

Eternatus
Details

Big, freaky, world-ending dragon.

Hisui Zoroark
Details

This would give him a weird parallel with Ava. Also, Hisui Zoroark could fit with MoM's implications about wanting revenge against Darkness…

Unfezant
Details

Candidate #1 for his Deadly Sin Pokémon.

Pyroar
Details

Candidate #2 for his Deadly Sin Pokémon. Also, pride is associated with lions.

Tyrantrum
Details

Candidate #3 for his Deadly Sin Pokémon.

Serperior
Details

Candidate #4 for his Deadly Sin Pokémon.

Empoleon
Details

Candidate #5 for his Deadly Sin Pokémon.

Hoopa
Details

Weird little guy with two forms that can open holes to other dimensions.

Flutter Mane
Details

Freaky ghost from the past.

Roaring Moon
Details

Powerful dragon from the past.

Hermod

Prinplup
Details

A starter Pokémon for him, and a weird vain one. I don't remember what the logic was, aside from thinking it was fun that he got a 2nd-stage starter.

Axew
Details

Matches his colors, and is a little Dragon-type. I feel like Hermod would've gone on to be a pretty strong Keyblade wielder, he seems like he could've been a Dragon-type guy.

Rookidee/ Corvisquire
Details

An early-game bird Pokémon that evolves into a knight! I dunno, it matches his vibes.

The serious one of the Scala ad Caelum school group. He seems kind of like the "leader", at least in my mind. I checked and the pre-release material says he's like a big brother. That's about the vibe I got!

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Riolu
Details

A "heroic" kind of Pokémon, and sorta matches his colors.

Urd

Alolan Sandshrew
Details

Her Ice-type! It's a physical attacker, but I felt like it fit her vibe the most. She has the most armor out of the KHDR kids, I felt like she needed an "armored" Pokémon.

Nidorina
Details

Partially given to her because I like Nidorina, and like having an excuse to use it. I think Urd could use Ground-types.

Espurr
Details

:3

Gameplay-wise, I used Urd the most, since she attacks with magic, and that was sorely lacking in the early months of the game. She seemed to mostly use ice magic, so that affected my perception of her. I like that she goes :3.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Snorunt
Details

Another Ice-type. Eh.

Tynamo
Details

I think this was also vibes? She could've had an Eelektross someday. That would've been cool.

Vor

Clefairy
Details

Cute and pink, with the potential to be very powerful.

Woobat
Details

A cute little Psychic-type that evolves through friendship. She never got to see it evolve. Eraqus took it in after her death, and after it evolved into a Swoobat.

Minccino
Details

Honestly? Matches her hair. Also, it's cute.

Poor Vor, the tragedy of the Scala ad Caelum kids. Honestly, I'm still surprised it was her who got an arc. I also genuinely thought she would survive…

She's apparently very good at magic, so I gave her some baby Psychic-types.

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Jigglypuff
Details

Alternate option for Clefairy, but less fun.

Snubbull
Details

The Fairy-type option I decided not to take.

Bragi

Wartortle
Details

Bragi is a defensive member of the team, and Wartortle learns Protect through level-up. It's also associated with wisdom & growing old. I like the juxtaposition of Bragi looking like he has some Fire-types, and then having a Water starter… And it's an accidental overlap with Brain!

Obstagoon
Details

Learns Obstruct (another defensive move), and is a fun punk guy, but most importantly is the only fully-evolved Pokémon among the Scala students' teams.

Deino
Details

Deino take a long time to evolve, especially if you're not actively leveling them… this is the same Deino. (It has a long life, don't worry about it.)

At the time of writing, it's been 6 months since KHDR ended, but I'm not over Bragi. I'm not over his fancy little Keyblade trick. God I hope we get to see more of that. He tries so hard to be a guiding force for the other students, especially for Eraqus…

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Simisear
Details

They do kinda have the same hair, huh.

Baldr

Galar Ponyta
Details

"This Pokémon will look into your eyes and read the contents of your heart. If it finds evil there, it promptly hides away."

Baldr… is a lot. At the time of writing, I've only watched through KHDR once. I feel like I need to think about him more to give him more Pokémon…

Considered/Non-Final Pokémon

Absol
Details

A Pokémon that can see the future. Perhaps not the most apt.

Darkrai
Details

Darkness legendary.

Carbink
Details

A sweet Fairy-type.

Alolan Vulpix
Details

Matches his colors.

Larvesta/ Volcarona
Details

I think because they're sun-related?

Rufflet/Hisui Braviary
Details

Another color match.
