Kingdom Hearts Pokémon Teams

They share a color scheme, Lurantis even looks like Graceful Dahlia. This is his ace, his main Pokémon.

Marluxia's team needs to be filled out with Grass-types, and so of course I looked at starters. And I really like the mental image of him with a Venusaur? I think it's sweet. I drew Lauriam with an Ivysaur once.

He has flower petals all over the place— when he attacks, when he takes off his hood, etc. He's gotta have a Roserade.

A Ghost/Grass type obtained either during or after KHUx… representing Strelitzia. Phantumps are dead children, and the spirit of Strelitzia is seemingly worked into his boss fight in Chain of Memories. It's dark, but it works. Additionally, with his boss fight mechanics & his lesser Nobodies being called Reapers, I think his element is supposed to be life and death. So Trevenant also plays into that.

I try to use Eeveelutions sparingly, but Jolteon just fits her whole aesthetic for me. Also, Elrena as she appears in KHUx gives me the impression she would have an Eevee.

It took me a while to commit to this one, and the reasoning really boils down to… this is what she would be in a Pokémon AU. Another fast, canine Electric-type.

I was really stuck between whether to go with Weavile or Sneasler for Larxene. Either of them could fit. I asked people on Twitter what they thought for this choice, and this meme (warning: swearing) came up, which makes sense because it's also what I think of when I think of Sneasler. Sneasler work alone, as opposed to Weavile working in groups, but yeah, I think Larxene could be described with that rant, and that's what really matters here.

I think it'd be cool if she gets the "masculine" option from a "feminine" evolution line. Also, she parallels Riku's Gardevoir!

Given to her by Eraqus. Mexgar on Twitter recommended Aqua and Terra get matching Urshifu, and that's not something I would've thought of on my own. Thanks! It's perfect, since they're split into a Water-type form and a Dark-type form. Aqua's is, of course, Rapid Strike, the Water form.

Aqua's fighting style is beautiful and dance-like, and that's exactly how Quaquaval attacks. I haven't been able to shake this association since I first evolved Quaxolas into one…

The main Terra Pokémon, as mirrored by Xemnas and Ansem. And it's really just because it's a big Rock/Dark-type, which is the best I can really do for Terra. He even gives baby Riku a Larvitar to continue this…

A loyal, cool Rock-type. This is the kind of Pokémon I want Terra to have, but so many of them just aren't right… I like Hisuian Arcanine for him, though. It's sweet.

Lauriam gave Ven the Hoppip during the KHUx era, and it stayed with him into the present, only evolving pre-BBS.

Given entirely to represent Vanitas as a Kyurem— a creature that was once whole, but no longer is. And Ventus, despite that, is still whole.

Ventus sleeps a lot. He napped for 10 years once

A Pokémon he had during KHUx, but became Vanitas's when he started existing. Ventus's introduction in KHUx shows him having so many doubts about being a Union Leader, which, well… he's not supposed to be there. His fears are justified. Poor kid.

A dragon created from when Zekrom and Reshiram separated into two beings. Kyurem is what's left, and it can combine with either of the two for more powerful, alternate forms. I'm fully aware this is mean to do to Vanitas, but I stand by it, it's too good.

Taken from Ventus, this was a Mimikyu he had in the KHUx era. And now, Vanitas is the one who embodies it…

Not a jellyfish, but similar in shape to a lot of the Unversed. Plus, as Mareanie's name suggests, it's a meanie. This was the idea of someone I followed on Twitter a few years ago, but the idea stuck! It's a solid choice.

The Pokémon stand-in for No Name.

I gave him a Cofagrigus before the end of KHUx came out. Um… yeah, I think young Xehanort having a Pokémon that mimics the face of his caretaker, someone whose memories he's seen in dreams, is… a lot, and really good. I didn't expect to be able to stand behind this one so hard.

A chess-related Dark-type. The colors also match, somehow?

A fun Fighting-type. Um… I don't think there was deep reasoning to this one.

An evolved form of the Woobat that used to belong to Vor, 80 or so years ago.

One of the Pokémon he's had since his school days. The logic is, um… it grows a mustache. Like he does. It has the right vibes of going from a fun kid to a serious adult.

Mostly vibes-based, but… I believe in this one. A cute little Fairy-type. This is also what I used for Sora's Starlight Keyblade.

Given to him by Ava when he was told he was gonna be a Union Leader. Representative of the Dandelions.

Ephemer believes in his friends so much, and Togetic is a Pokémon that brings happiness to those that are pure of heart… I felt like they would be a good match. I drew it once!

Given to him by the Player! Ephemer is, regardless of everything, just a guy. And I wanted to give him some Pokémon that are just little guys, something from the early routes of a game. And Furret are cute!

Traded to him by Brain (for Wartortle). I don't think it evolves until after the events of KHUx/until he's rebuilding Scala, but it felt weird to not know what his Eevee would evolve into for him specifically. (Usually I use Eevee without a known evolution as a representation of a character's potential.) Espeon's a friendship evolution, and felt like the best fit.

Star theme.

It's what I assigned to her in the PMD AU I drew, so I just… went for it. I think it fits, I think a Route 1 Pokémon with a Dark(-type)er twist is fun.

Murkrow has a hat! Brain has a hat! They match! This is also what I made him in PMD AU.

He works with a lot of technology, and I think it'd be fitting if the so-called "virus" has a little technology ghost. It's cute!

Something about Eelektross's line being the only Pokémon with no weaknesses (being Electric-types with Levitate) feels fitting for Brain.

Traded to him by Ephemer for an Eevee. Wartortle is my favorite of the line, and apparently represents longevity in the Pokémon universe. Brain's Keyblade has been carrying on for… well, at least a hundred years, we don't know the exact timeline yet. I think it's cool!

Firstly, I really like the Chikorita line, I think they're adorable. Secondly, I think the vibes match really well? Very sweet Grass-types. Strelitzia seems like the type to have a starter Pokémon. She was supposed to be a Union Leader, after all.

What I made her in PMD AU! They're super cute, they're little, they're plants. I even got the bangs to match up, a little!

Matches with her brother Lauriam's Plusle. Honestly, considering switching this to be a more fitting Pokémon, although it is cute for them to have a pair…

Dead coral… I gave her Cursola after the scene with dream-Strelitzia in a white cloak came out.

He's the unicorn guy, he HAS to have the actual unicorn Pokémon. Plus, his main element seems to be light? And this is the closest I could really get.

Given to him by the Master of Masters, to represent wrath, the deadly sin Ira is named for. When I thought of the MoM-given Pokémon, I imagined it like an inside joke for MoM and MoM alone? Which is why he gave the "leader" of the group a Magikarp.

I love Golisopod very much, and I like using them to denote that a character looks intimidating but is actually very nervous.

I'm trying to give Ira a well-balanced team, and I wanted to give him a nice Fire-type. Sometimes it's hard to fill out a team.

Magic snake!

Cool snake. Also, Invi's Keyblade looks like vines— a Grass-type snake is a good match for that.

A high-special-defense serpent. Also, the Pokémon the Master of Masters gave her to represent her sin of envy.

I mean, obviously. I decided on this before Ursaluna was released, and honestly I'm sticking to it, I think Ursaring fits Aced better than Ursaluna. But like. Bear.

A Pokémon with an extremely high Attack stat, but is kind of dumb and will ram its head into things and take recoil damage.

The Pokémon the Master of Masters gave him to represent the sin of sloth. The MoM is so mean to Aced, in Japanese he gives him a nickname basically calling him dumb. So… yeah, Slowbro seemed like a good fit for all that. Poor Aced.

Another strong Pokémon, this time from the past!

The Fire-type Ninetales. She has a fox theme, of course she has a Ninetales.

The Ice/Fairy-type Ninetales. If I wanted to give her only one Ninetales, I would choose this one, but I think it's fun if she has both. They both fit her!

Given to her by Gula. This was… a whole thing. I originally had given her another Zoroark, which brought the total of Zoroarks on KH teams up to 4, and that was too many for me. Then, Legends Arceus hit in 2021, and I pondered giving her a Hisui Zoroark… and decided that yeah, that's a good choice. I'm so glad I got to differentiate the Zoroarks. This one's more messed up, and considering how much Ava goes through, I think she can have the messed up Zoroark.

Honestly? It fits her aesthetic. She needed a cute pink guy, I know she'd love a Clefable. Her team didn't feel right without at least one cute pink guy.

Her gift from the Master of Masters, representing the sin of greed. This was a hard one to assign, but I think Liepard fits with what she has going on the best.

Previously owned. She gave it to Ephemer when she told him he was gonna be a Union Leader. Because she's a Dandelion!

The fastest non-Legendary Pokémon. Gula zips around, Ninjask zips around.

Also very fast, but more importantly, Electric-type. Given to him by Ava.

Gula gets the honor of a Shiny because his colors match too well not to! Also because I made him a shiny Luxio in PMD AU, and gave in after that.

A Pokémon from the Master of Masters to represent the sin of gluttony. Because they… have the ability Gluttony. I think I'm hilarious. (Also, it was really hard to find a gluttony Pokémon without just… completely killing his very fast team. Had to match the vibe.)

The stand-in for No Name, given to Luxu by the Master of Masters.

This was a friend's idea that I pondered for a while and couldn't get out of my head. (Ignore that I have a massive bias toward Deino.) They take a long time to evolve, they're endgame Pokémon, they're little dragons, they look like they have a little black hoodie… and they evolve into a solid "villain" Pokémon. There's just a bunch of overlapping factors that make Deino a really fun Pokémon for Luxu.

I decided to not give Luxu a Pokémon for his deadly sin, partially because, uh, I don't want to, but this is… kinda what his deadly sin Pokémon is? Because in Ancrene Wisse, the place where the Foretellers' animal motifs are (mostly) drawn from, lust is represented by a scorpion. And that's cool! Skorupi is also still on the board, but I like the idea of giving him a weird not-quite-scorpion alien.

He's gotta get into the future somehow, y'know? Certainly there's no better method than body-hopping.

Gothitelle has visions of the future, much like how the Master of Masters can see into the future through No Name.

Drifblim is an ominous ghost that can carry people to the afterlife. It evolves from Drifloon, a Pokémon that spirits away children. As the guy who is presumably in charge of everything that happened in Daybreak Town, I think it's a good fit.

The stand-in for No Name. Given to Luxu.

A starter Pokémon for him, and a weird vain one. I don't remember what the logic was, aside from thinking it was fun that he got a 2nd-stage starter.

Matches his colors, and is a little Dragon-type. I feel like Hermod would've gone on to be a pretty strong Keyblade wielder, he seems like he could've been a Dragon-type guy.

An early-game bird Pokémon that evolves into a knight! I dunno, it matches his vibes.

Her Ice-type! It's a physical attacker, but I felt like it fit her vibe the most. She has the most armor out of the KHDR kids, I felt like she needed an "armored" Pokémon.

Partially given to her because I like Nidorina, and like having an excuse to use it. I think Urd could use Ground-types.

Cute and pink, with the potential to be very powerful.

A cute little Psychic-type that evolves through friendship. She never got to see it evolve. Eraqus took it in after her death, and after it evolved into a Swoobat.

Honestly? Matches her hair. Also, it's cute.

Bragi is a defensive member of the team, and Wartortle learns Protect through level-up. It's also associated with wisdom & growing old. I like the juxtaposition of Bragi looking like he has some Fire-types, and then having a Water starter… And it's an accidental overlap with Brain!

Learns Obstruct (another defensive move), and is a fun punk guy, but most importantly is the only fully-evolved Pokémon among the Scala students' teams.

Deino take a long time to evolve, especially if you're not actively leveling them… this is the same Deino. (It has a long life, don't worry about it.)
